Asset management has not always been my forte. Over the past two years, mobile devices have appeared, disappeared, been reassigned, or sat forgotten in drawers with little thought. I am responsible for several thousand laptops and mobile phones, and the challenge of managing them efficiently has become impossible to ignore. Over time, a patchwork of systems, spreadsheets, suppliers, and processes has developed, creating complexity and inconsistency across our mobility environment.

One of our suppliers has proposed moving to a Zero Touch Mobility (ZTM) model, and I can immediately see the appeal. A ZTM system manages the entire lifecycle of mobile devices, from procurement and provisioning through to deployment, support, replacement, and eventual retirement. New phones can be shipped directly to users and automatically configured with the correct applications, policies, and security settings, without IT staff having to manually prepare each device. For me, the greatest benefit is visibility and control. Instead of juggling multiple databases and processes, I would have a single source of truth for mobile assets.

In addition, process automation should reduce administrative overhead, improve compliance, and ensure devices remain secure and accurately tracked throughout their lifecycle. Not to mention the money I could save the organisation. With thousands of devices under management, this solution offers the opportunity to replace complexity with consistency, allowing me to focus on strategy rather than chasing missing assets and outdated records.
