Wi‑Fi woes

I have spent a good part of my day trying to resolve my router and Wi‑Fi issues. The new router was in, the access points were neatly mounted, and I had a sense of stronger Wi‑Fi, cleaner coverage, and proper visibility across the whole network. It felt like progress. Then I did a speed test. On Ethernet, I was pulling a solid 600 Mbps, exactly what I’d expect. But the moment I switched to Wi‑Fi, it dropped to a frustrating crawl of 50 or 60 Mbps. Same internet, same house, completely different experience. That’s when the day changed.

What followed was hours of tinkering. Channels were adjusted, widths tweaked, band steering questioned, firmware checked. I found myself moving from room to room with a laptop, testing, retesting, chasing signal strength and interference as if it were a puzzle that refused to be solved. At times, I wondered if I’d made things worse rather than better. At the end of the day, Wi-Fi was faster, but still not as fast as the Ethernet connection. I clearly still have more work to do. Nevertheless, I gained a better understanding of my home network, which was the real upgrade.
