Uncommon sense

Every now and again I stumble across some wisdom in the unlikeliest place. Earlier today I was watching a manga recap, and while the main character was showing a group of dwarves how to forge a legendary sword, he explained why they had failed to produce the sword themselves.

Once you stop clinging to common sense, you can create anything.

In other words, acting with common sense leads to average results. Common sense produces results you can count on, but you’re never going to grow unless you take a risk and try something new. You might also fail, but one way or the other you will learn something uncommon.
