The front door

Getting the front door right has taken three upgrades, and together they’ve made it work the way a front door should. The first was the draught. The builder’s work left gaps, so I fixed them myself with custom draught-proofing. The house is now noticeably more comfortable, and the door closes with a proper seal. The second was the latch. The door only had a bolt lock, which meant it had to be locked every time to stay shut. That’s a nuisance and a security risk if someone forgets. Adding a roller latch solved it. The roller’s pressure now holds the door closed whenever I push it shut, with no key or lock turn needed.
The final piece was the smart lock with Apple Home Key and UWB. This is where it all came together. Ultra-wideband detects me as I approach, so the door unlocks automatically without me needing to raise a phone or watch. Hands full of shopping or a dog lead? It simply opens. Each fix addressed a gap the builder left. What began as a frustrating, poorly finished job has become a door that seals well, shuts securely, and opens when I come home. Just brilliant!
