The Cube

Back in 1969, a few months before Sesame Street launched, Jim Henson produced a teleplay called The Cube. A man finds himself inside a room-sized cube with white panels. He can’t leave but other people walk in and out and the talk with him throughout the story. The sparseness of the story makes it easy for anyone to interpret it however they like, and this is why it holds up almost 60 years later.

For me the cube is a perfect allegory for YouTube. It’s an allegory for whatever we use to keep ourselves trapped. In truth, I can walk out at any time, but for reasons I can’t quite understand, I don’t.
