The body keeps the score

I’ve had a terrible week health-wise. Physically and mentally I’ve been in decline the whole month. About six months ago I was making progress, but I’ve since slipped back into a carb-heavy food cycle. Thankfully I have all my research notes, so I’m going to take some time to revisit what I found back in February.

The first topic is about metabolic memory. The body doesn’t reset overnight. So even if you change your numbers, the momentum of past decisions keeps the system moving in the wrong direction. You’re hitting the brakes, and cutting the wheel, but the car is still skidding into a ditch.

So I need to expect any good decisions I make to take time to have an effect. My overall goal is to reduce metabolic spikes that add to the chaos my body is experiencing, and start deploying stabilizing forces. I was calling this idea “anchors and waves” as a way to simplify the complex nonlinear system dynamics. The anchors build stability to help me weather the waves. Unfortunately, right now the waves are highly chaotic and it will take time and work to dampen them again.
