The ad hoc book

I’m taking a break from reading a book Claude wrote this morning on writing habits. We now have a whole nine-step process that runs over a couple hours: ideation, research, concept testing, further research, creating source cards for the subagents to use, scaffolding, a giant drafting phase, a final fact-check, and then the book gets added to my shelf to read.

We’re living in the age of the ad hoc book – a manuscript designed specifically for one reader. It’s not the same as a really well-done piece of investigative journalism, but the output keeps getting better and better.

Maybe I should have Claude write a book about writing a book.
