Tech Wipeouts

This afternoon was the first session of the AI Surfer Cohort. The chief aim of this first session was to walk through how to get started, culminating in installing the AI Surfer OS. Perhaps that was too lofty a goal for this particular group of people. I completed the steps successfully, but many people became frustrated and had tech wipeouts. I would say this procedure was a bit more advanced than your average setup.

The first step was to create an account with Xcloud and start a new server. In order to use the Agentic feature with Hermes, a paid plan is required. There is an introductory $9.95 plan that rises to $20/month, but I opted for the year to save money. I'm in it for the long haul. We then connected the Open AI Codex - ChatGPT OAuth as the LLM model that underlies the OS. This was the first of several back-and-forth token handoffs. The server took about 10 minutes to spin up.

The next step was to use the terminal to execute an install command with the license key. This step immediately installed and activated the AI Surfer OS. This all sounded straightforward, and I was able to follow along, but there was a lot of grumbling from the group. I think instead of going through the whole shebang, they should have broken the onboarding process to keep things simpler for folks.

Once I had the OS installed, the first thing I did was set up an account with Composio, a free tool that connects to all sorts of applications. I started with connecting my Gmail account, and I already have my main agent helping me clean up my inbox.

The next step, which will take some time, is establishing my 90/10 North Star. This will be the driving factor for how all my agents help me move forward on my goals.

This is Day 1 of a new way of life with my new AI partner.
