Strings

The kite flys in the wind. The string holds it back. Why don’t we just cut the string? It’s holding the kite down. It is not free. But without the string, the kite drops back to the ground and breaks, or get stuck and lost on top of a tree, or drowns in the sea. What you thought was holding you back was the thing that kept you flying. The string keeps you grounded, in a good way. And to fly higher, you’ll need more string, not less!

This sounds like an unnecessary exposition about kites. But it’s not about kites.

It’s about things that bind us.
Mindsets that hold us back.
Trauma that keeps us scared.

What’s holding you back?

Perhaps the things holding you back are not supposed to be cut off, but to help you stay flying, and fly higher.

If you know how to use the string, tug at it, release or reel it back.

Perhaps that’s why it feels easier—lazier—to say just cut it off.
