Sharing the load

There are probably only three ways to make a relationship work. I can do everything, my wife can do everything, or we can share the load equally. For more than forty years, the third option has worked well for us. I believe sharing responsibilities is an important part of a healthy relationship. It is not necessarily about keeping score or dividing everything perfectly down the middle. It is about knowing that neither person carries the entire burden and that we are there to support one another when it matters.

One of the things I value most about my marriage is having such a supportive wife. She has always encouraged me to spend time with friends and family, to pursue my own interests and goals, and to maintain a life outside our relationship. She wants what is best for me and has never tried to hold me back from the things I enjoy. Of course, we don’t always agree. When something isn’t right, we make the effort to come together and talk. Those conversations help us understand what is bothering each other, where we can compromise, and how we can better support one another. After more than forty years together, I think we have found a balance that works. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for much more.
