Sitting at my desk and suddenly realising I’m about to doze off is probably the most obvious signal my body can give. The past week has involved late nights and early mornings, and the sleep debt has finally caught up with me. I’ve always been an early riser and usually enjoy those quiet mornings. Waking up early, walking Louie and Otis, and starting the day before most people suits me. However, early mornings only work when paired with reasonable bedtimes, and recently, that balance has been lost.

There’s always another task on the horizon, whether it’s a new problem to tackle, an intriguing investigation to pursue, or a stubborn Homebridge configuration that refuses to cooperate. Before I realise it, an hour slips away quickly. Feeling drowsy at my desk should be my cue to stop working for the night. There’s little point in stretching the evening by an extra hour or two if I end up exhausted and drained the next day. Maybe tonight’s the night to break the cycle once and for all. The issues will still be there tomorrow, waiting to be addressed, and sometimes, the most productive choice is simply to go to bed and get a good night’s sleep.
