Rising price of laptops

It’s not only the increase in prices for Apple devices that is impacting me, but also the sharp rise in laptop prices as I prepare my technology budget. Since the start of the year, prices have risen by around 70%, putting significant pressure on my ability to provide staff with modern, reliable devices. In an environment where productivity increasingly depends on technology, delaying laptop replacements is not an ideal option. A major factor behind these price increases is global demand for advanced silicon chips. The rapid growth of artificial intelligence has triggered an unprecedented need for powerful processors and graphics chips, both in data centres and in consumer devices. Technology companies are investing billions of dollars in AI infrastructure, creating intense competition for the limited supply of advanced semiconductor manufacturing capacity.
The result is a challenging balancing act. My budget now needs to be stretched further than ever before, while staff expectations for performance and reliability continue to rise steadily. Asset management becomes even more critical, as extending the lifespan of existing devices may be necessary to meet these demands. Although AI offers the potential for significant productivity improvements, the increasing costs of the hardware required to support it pose a substantial challenge for organizations like ours.
