Preparing the dirt

This year I started gardening again, but I didn’t produce much. Just some beans, peas, tomatoes, and peppers. By time I prepared the containers and raised beds my energy bar dropped to critical. I didn’t get my seedlings started, and that threw off the entire season.
But my energy is back and I’m getting the dirt ready ahead of time. I’m emptying out the old soil, clearing out the roots, and covering everything in sheeting so next year I can just cut some holes in the covers and drop in my transplants. I’m also preparing soil in bags so I’m ready to make soil blocks next year. I’ll just have to add water to the dirt and shape them with my soil block tools.
When I think back and ask, “Why did I stop gardening,” this is probably the answer. I left too much work to be done for the next season. The dirt is literally the foundation of a good gardening experience.
