Networking

@jasonleow's recent post about network being net worth is very much on point with my current mindset. Business is all about relationships. That's the bottom line.

I heard one trainer say he insists his people have at least 100 active conversations going at any given time. Some people drop off and you add more in. The point is that you are talking and talking and more talking. And that doesn't mean you sit and wait until the ideal moment to pounce and promote your business by hitting them over the head with it. In fact, that's where I went wrong in the past.

My new strategy is simple. Start conversations, ask questions, and just be human. Ask how work is going. Ask how family is going. Connect with them on some shared memory. Start with a focus on them. Sooner or later, they will ask me what I'm up to, and I still don't vomit all over them with my opportunity. I talk about my work transition, how I'm building my own business. In fact, I stay rather coy. I want them to ask me. I want them to insist on knowing what I have to share.

Don't chase. Attract.
