MG Roadster returns

During the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, the British car brand MG was well-known for its two-seater sports cars. Popular models, such as the classic MGA and MGB, were sold internationally. Currently, the MG brand is operated by the Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, which has shifted to producing standard SUVs under the MG name. The company has now launched its first sports car, the MG Cyberster. This fully electric roadster merges MG’s renowned legacy with contemporary electric technology. Upon its release later this year, it will become the fastest and priciest vehicle ever sold by the Chinese manufacturer in Australia, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The Cyberster will be offered locally in a single high-end, all-wheel-drive model with a range of 444 kilometres.
The Cyberster will maintain the timeless silhouette of a two-seat sports car, featuring a long hood, a sleek cabin, and a compact rear overhang. Its design showcases striking scissor-style doors, a hallmark from the concept model. This vehicle is intended to rival other electric sports cars, including the Tesla Roadster and upcoming Porsche 718 Boxster EV, as well as traditional petrol models like the BMW Z4 and Mazda MX-5. The expected price range is between $100,000 and $150,000. Given this pricing, it is unlikely to compete with Australia’s top-selling sports car, the Mazda MX-5, which costs half as much as the MG.
