Laziness

Every now and then, a piece of content on TwiX grabs my attention. This one comes courtesy of Scott Adams. He suggested that laziness is a state of mind.

"What if laziness is a habit of thinking about the effort instead of thinking about the payoff? What if you could reverse laziness by developing a habit of thinking about the outcome or end result instead of the work it will take to get there?"

Is someone naturally ambitious, or does that person have a habit of thinking that creates dopamine (the molecule of more) that drives them forward?

From a biohacking standpoint, this idea makes a lot of sense. Most people don't get excited about work (except workaholics, but that may be more about addiction than excitement). Having an eye on the prize creates a shift biochemically. The brain must feel the cost of inaction more intensely than the discomfort of action.

Identity shapes behavior. If you continue to identify as a procrastinator or lazy, you will find it difficult to break the cycle.

Feelings should not dictate actions; maintain discipline through consistent action and behavioral shifts.

Isn't it great to realize that so much of your life is under your control? Of course, some people are scared by the idea.

Brilliant. This offers an exciting alternative to “never think about the outcome” rule, especially in manifestation, but also in habit formation and creative work. Thinking about the payoff instead leans towards “do something your future self would thank you for” and might be the cure to laziness.
