Imbalanced balance

Living a balanced life. That was the goal isn’t it?
Everything in moderation. Food, media, wine, sex, sleep, exercise. Even good things, in moderation. Live a balanced life.
But what if that’s not always truth?
What if that’s a lie some of the time?
What if there’s just a season where you can’t live a balanced life, and shouldn’t?
What if trying to stay balanced in an imbalanced season makes it worse?
What if something requires and expects only imbalance from you?
If you’re young and you land on a huge opportunity of a lifetime, you don’t try to hold back and ‘stay balanced’. You get after it.
If you’re a new dad and your wife and baby requires you to sacrifice sleep, self-care and your hobbies, you do it.
If your mum/grandma loves you a lot and cooks for you but it’s not very healthy food, you eat it. With relish.
Balance is a virtue.
Chasing balance all of the time, without context and awareness, love and kindness, is not virture.
Sometimes, just sometimes, balance can go to hell.
Imbalanced balance.
