Four seasons in one day

They say Melbourne can have four seasons in one day, and today was a reminder of how quickly the weather can change. During the week, we enjoyed beautiful spring weather. There were warm, sunny days, blue skies, and temperatures that made it feel as though summer had arrived early. It was perfect weather to get outside, walk the dogs, enjoy a coffee, and make the most of the longer days. Then today arrived.
The sunshine disappeared, the temperature dropped, and the rain seemed determined to make up for lost time. It was one of those cold, drenching Melbourne days when everything outside looked grey and wet. After several days of sunshine, it felt as if we’d been suddenly transported back into the middle of winter. Even the dogs had cabin fever from being cooped up all day.
Of course, this is Melbourne, and I should know better than to trust a run of warm spring weather. Just when I think it is safe to put the jackets away, the weather has other plans. Still, there is something strangely comforting about a wet Sunday. It gives me an excuse to slow down, stay inside, have another coffee, and listen to the rain, hoping the sunshine will return soon.
