Clearing the desk

Today I got a monitor arm, which I hope to install in my desk at the office so I can free up the desk space already being taken by the monitor. I sometimes need as much desk space as possible to spread out papers and make connections between different ideas. A4 paper is not enough. A3 paper is not enough. I need multiple papers. I’m even thinking of bringing out the big boys (Flipchart paper!). Getting the monitor off the desk should (hopefully) do the trick of giving me more space to work with.

Do you value big desk space? What do you like having on your desk?

Making space is like finding time–it always fills back up again with something else. At least, that’s my experience.

@Winkletter I agree, but my plan is to occasionally clear out my desk to organize stuff, and then resume with computer work. Right now it’s easy to move my laptop off the desk, but the monitor is a tad too cumbersome to move. There’s too much friction. I need an easy way to move between paper-mode and computer mode.

Paper is old school. My virtual desktop is the messy one.

@therealbrandonwilson I clear out my virtual desktop by creating a folder and dumping everything in it. My Future Self will have to deal with the mess in that folder someday 🤣
