Back to reality

I’m going to stay offline for a while. I do this now and again when I feel like my brain is stuck in a rut. All roads lead to the internet. Whatever idea pops into my head. Whatever problem I’m facing. Whatever boredom I feel. My brain immediately thinks to look online, to watch a video, or chat with an LLM, and as soon as I cross that threshold I never make it back to reality.
Somewhere I was reading research about something called the D-factor, but I’m not going to go look it up. Essentially there are some people who can get very focused on their interior experience and this leads to both distractibility and hyperfocus. They’re different sides of the same coin. It’s what allows me to shut out the world and what allows me to get distracted by own thoughts.
For a while I have to focus on shaping boundaries. I’m going to keep posting, but I’m going back to using a timer to set a time limit and an intention. Time’s up! Back to reality.
