At the bookstore

My partner is on a kick to organize and declutter, which prompted me to do another round of pruning my wardrobe. While I was at it, I decided to do a full review of my bookshelves to see whether I'm ready to give away any books to be of value to someone else. I managed to select about fifteen books and went to my favorite used bookstore, Bookman's, to get a quote.

The quote took a while, so I had time to peruse the shelves. That's the great thing about a used bookstore--you never know what goodies you'll find. It's the opposite of a restaurant I go to regularly. I order the same thing because that's what I like at that restaurant. I don't want any surprises.

In the end, Bookman's took three books and offered $3 cash or $9 credit. I took the credit, adding it to my tally of over $100 in store credit from previous donations. The three books I left there were immediately replaced with three more:

  • Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty
  • More Natural Cures Revealed by Kevin Trudeau
  • The Book on Mind Management by Dennis R. Deaton

The last book I pulled off the shelf, flipped through, and put back. As I wandered around the store waiting for them to call my name, something told me to go back and get it. I took a closer look and was sold when I saw this passage:

"The consummate truth of life is that we alter our destiny by altering our thoughts. The mind is our most crucial resource, our crowning asset, our ultimate arena of battle. If we will master the power of our minds, we may do or be whatsoever we will."

I cannot wait to dive into this one.
