It’s time to seriously consider solar panels and a battery for our new home. It’s been on the list for a while, but now that we’re settled in, it feels like the right time to work out what would work best for us. The financial savings are obviously a major draw. Generating electricity during the day should reduce how much power we need to buy from the grid, while a battery would let us store some of that energy for later in the evening. There’s something very appealing about using electricity generated on our own roof rather than relying entirely on the grid.

There is also an environmental benefit. While one household installing solar won’t change the world, it still feels good to make a small contribution to cleaner energy and reduce our dependence on traditional electricity generation. Unfortunately, we earn too much to qualify for the Victorian Government rebates for solar panels and batteries. However, Federal Government incentives aren’t means-tested, so some assistance is still available to us. I used Claude AI to help me analyse our electricity usage and scope out the solar and battery system we might need. With that information in hand, I have now sent off several requests for quotes. Another home project begins!
