A year in Northcote

This week marks the first anniversary of our move into our new home, and I still find it hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. It feels like just yesterday we were surrounded by boxes, trying to figure out where to put everything. At that time, the move seemed overwhelming, the culmination of months of careful planning, organising, and hard work. Now, a year later, it’s hard to remember the stress and chaos. Those days feel like a distant memory, replaced by the comfort and familiarity we’ve built here.
Over the past year, our house has steadily become a home. The spaces that initially felt strange are now infused with routines, memories, and everyday comforts. We’ve explored local cafés, strolled through the neighbourhood streets, and integrated into Northcote’s everyday rhythm. What once seemed unfamiliar now feels entirely second nature. Looking back, I am amazed at how quickly we adapted. The seasons have changed, family dinners have taken place, dogs have roamed every part of the neighbourhood, and life continues as usual. However, reflecting on this milestone feels particularly meaningful. It reminds me that home is more than just a location; it’s the memories we build there. After a year, Northcote genuinely feels like home, and I look forward to what the future holds.
