A return to Goodwood

Today, while watching the Day 2 highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, I found myself transported back three years to one of the most memorable events I have ever attended. Much as the Silverstone Grand Prix stirred old memories last week, Goodwood evoked an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The Festival of Speed is unlike any other motoring event in the world. It is part motor show, part museum, part race meeting, and part garden party. Everywhere you look, there are legendary racing cars, modern hypercars, famous drivers, and passionate enthusiasts sharing a love of all things automotive. The sound of engines echoing through the Sussex countryside, the smell of fuel and rubber, and the sight of priceless machinery tackling the famous hill climb create an atmosphere that is impossible to forget.
Attending in person was a bucket-list event. I still remember wandering through the displays, standing metres from cars I had only ever seen in magazines or on TV, and watching motorsport heroes put on a show for the crowd. There was an excitement and energy that seemed to flow through every corner of the estate. Watching from Australia today is enjoyable, but it is not the same. As the highlights rolled on, I couldn’t help but wish I was back at Goodwood, soaking it all in once again.
