A glimpse of our next car

There is a shift in the types of cars being added to the work fleet, with full-electric cars now a serious consideration. The fleet manager had a Kia EV3 on loan from the dealer for evaluation, and he let me borrow it overnight and bring it home, partly out of curiosity, but mostly to see what my wife would make of it. My first impression was that it was very easy to drive, roomy inside, and obviously quiet. When my wife arrived home, she thought it was just another fleet car. She didn’t recognise it as different from the other cars I’ve brought home from work. The white colour always gives it away as a fleet car, so I couldn’t blame her.

After dinner, I showed her around, lifting the bonnet to reveal no usual mechanical clutter. We both stood there for a moment, slightly amused, slightly puzzled. Inside, it felt more like sitting in a piece of modern tech than a car, with a big screen and everything minimal. We went for a short test drive around the block. The smoothness caught her off guard, and the instant acceleration earned a raised eyebrow. Back in the driveway, we lingered a little, quietly aware that this wasn’t just a novelty. It was a glimpse of what’s coming next.
